Board Minutes, February 2004
Date: Sat, 7 Feb 2004 14:34:23 EST
Subject: MINUTES: NCHOA Board of Directors, Feb. 5, 2004
MINUTES
MEETING: NCHOA Board of Directors
DATE: February 5, 2004
LOCATION: 3313 Sentinel
1. ATTENDEES:
Veronica Precella, Ann Crosby, Cindy Johnson, Paul Hastings, Lana Lathrop, Rich Lathrop, Karin Hale, Thor Berg, Annie Cooke. A majority of the Board was present, constituting a quorum.
2. APPOINTMENT OF TREASURER
The Board appointed Ann Crosby treasurer, completing the slate of officers for 2004. Ann is also our bookkeeper and would be happy to turn over those tasks to an experienced volunteer. Essential duties: Send out annual dues notice. Deposit Assn. funds. Track Assn. expenses. Write a few checks per month. Respond to title company inquiries.
3. FINANCIAL MATTERS
The Board agreed to contact homeowners who are in arrears on dues. Ann Crosby noted that we are in pretty good shape for dues for this time of the year and that many homeowners are electing to pay the entire year in a single payment. Increasing costs for water, natural gas, landscape maintenance and the aging of our facilities suggests that a small increase in dues may be needed soon. Present dues are set to just offset Northcreek’s annual costs and have been held at this level for ten years or more.
4. BOULDER MUNICIPAL AIRPORT MASTER PLAN UPDATE
The Board noted that the Master Plan Update for the Boulder airport could have important impacts for our neighborhood and urges homeowners to attend the City’s first Open House on the issue Feb. 11, 6-7 p.m. at the Celestial Seasonings Caf鬠4600 Sleepytime Drive. The Board hopes to have observers there as well.
5. NORTHCREEK COMMUNITY SIGN
(The gray sign with blue geese south of the mail kiosk). This 14-year-old plywood sign is deteriorating, and the plywood layers delaminating. We have had a bid of $640 to refurbish the sign. Karin Hale proposed looking into the cost of an “etched stone” sign that would be more durable. Such a change would entail removal of the brick pillars supporting the current sign.
6. HOT TUB
The Board noted continuing concerns about the temperature of the hot tub. Cindy Johnson has agreed to chair the hot-tub committee. Homeowners with hot-tub issues can call Cindy. Note: the hot tub, too, is 14 years old, well beyond its life expectancy. The Board expects that replacement of this facility is not far off.
7. NEW BUSINESS
The Board discussed a Northcreek-wide Garage Sale, possibly for spring or early summer. Rich Lathrop will also contact Western Disposal and/or BFI about the possibility of securing a “neighborhood dumpster” for a week or weekend around the same time. The thinking: try to sell it first. Remember EcoCycle (www.ecocycle.org) drop sites for conventional and hard-to-recycle items are only five minutes from Northcreek. If all else fails, a dumpster could reduce neighborhood clutter.
There was also discussion of future social events such as “Sunday morning coffee” or evening gatherings with local musicians at the hot-tub area, weekly volleyball. Anyone interested in chairing a group to arrange more social events, please call NCHOA President Veronica Precella.
Veronica advised the Board that member Marcie Lavigne had resigned because of the demands of her medical practice.
8. ADJOURN: 8:08 p.m. NEXT MEETING: Thursday, March 4, 7-8 p.m. at 3313 Sentinel.
